It Will Be a Shuckin’ Good Time!

3/30/19 – F3 Hartsville 4 Year Anniversary Shindig

Location: Last Rites’ House

Come one, come all!  Those who attended last year remember fellowship and Stallion winning not one but two awards.  Those of you who weren’t a part of this crazy thing we call F3 Hartsville last year, come get some great 2nd F with us this year.

What:

A party for all of F3 Hartsville AND the families of F3 Hartsville

This year we are back to shuckin’ oysters!  We will have other stuff to eat as long as you bring it (that means bring an appetizer to share).  Also, we will be taking monetary donations to apply to service projects in our community (3rdF).  That’s what F3 is all about!

Awards.  I did mention awards.  Divac will be sending out ballots shortly for your voting pleasure.  Don’t feel too bad if you don’t win one.  I know it’s hard for some, but be a man about it.  Did I mention Stallion won two last year?  Don’t let that happen again.

When:

Saturday, March 30 6:00pm. Come early to help set up if you can.

Where:

1121 Pine Lake Drive, Hartsville

How:

RSVP here by 3/23: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1MooOZrey4WZZp-WGqrPBDRKnifmQMltl_2lPRIVgkAc/edit?usp=sharing  so we can know how many oysters to buy

Frosty Tour of Town

Conditions: 25 degrees with heavy frost

YHC had the Q and was kinda pissed after Tuesday's poor turnout.  After talking a little trash on GroupMe, I thought the numbers would be up.  I was right...sorta.  We increased Tuesday's numbers by 33%. That was only one more PAX bringing the grand total to 4.  We got better while the rest didn't so we can hold our heads high!

The Warmup:    (IC)

SSH X 20

Frankensteins x 20

Love Mes x 20

Wind Mill x 20

Toe hold Squat x 15

The Thang:

We toured the town with scheduled stops along the way.  At each stop the PAX had to perform the following:

Merkins x 10

Big Boy Sit ups x 10

Squats x 10

Burpees x 5

Oh, the sites we saw!  Railroad Ave., 2nd St., Coker Campus (several different places including each end of the promenade), the lights at Vintage.

All tolled, we had 12 stops and covered 2.02 miles.

Mary: (IC)

LBC x 25

Box cutters x 25

Devo: Daniel 1:1-21

A Person of Godly influence

Daniel had a great influence over those in Babylon, even though he was in captivity.  He didn't simply know God's law, he was convinced there was no other way to live.  His faith gave him courage.  He didn't let fear dominate his emotions.  He simply trusted the Lord and spoke out.

How can God use us to impact others for Christ as Daniel impact those in Babylon?  Shouldn't we as leaders in our community have the same kind of influence Daniel did?  You talk the talk, but do you walk the walk?

With Thanksgiving We Don’t Do This Often

Conditions:  48 Degrees; field soggy

All PAX grabbed a  block before we circled up with the exception of Flopper who showed up 2 minutes late.

Warmup (IC):

SSH x 20

Windmill x 15

Penningtons x 12 each way

Imperial Walkers x 15

The main Thang:

Knowing that Eisenhower especially hated this exercise, I thought this week would be a great time to do it again.  It’s been at least a year since we last did it.

Sitting on the ground, place your feet through the holes in the block. Stretch you legs out to full extension and lift your butt off the ground and inch-worm forward.  This is the mode of travel down the field.  Klinger immediately regretted showing up, which is saying a lot from the 50-mile Star Course finisher!

At the first tree, Big Boy Sit-ups x 10

2nd tree, Merkins x 10

Alternate trees all the way to the other end of the field.

When passing a pergola, grab onto the beam and do knee-ups x 10

On the 6:

Dips x 25

Box Cutters x 25

LBC x 50

Run a lap.

We had to get back to the starting point, so we decided it best to rinse and repeat.

On the 6:

Rinse and Repeat, with added curls

Hold plank for 90 seconds

Devo:

What are you thankful for? I asked the PAX to think on that and be ready to share as I read the scripture.

Colossians 3: 16-17

16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

Personally, the last 3 or 4 months have been great for me. I have a new job, a new house, a new truck, a new phone.  I sold my house within 2 weeks of it being on the market.  I sold my car to someone I worked with in Columbia and didn't have to haggle any.  I did all these things for my family who I am extremely thankful for.

Others shared their thankfulness for the freedoms of the country we live in, their families, their church, F3, Christ our Savior, and the list goes on.  What are you thankful for this year?  Have you taken time to thank God?

Spartacus

Conditions: 55 with wet ground conditions

All PAX grabbed a block and 2 bricks before we got started. It was great to see that Colonel Reba (Chicken Fried’s Dad) was there early expecting his son to show up.  We told him that was highly unlikely give Chicken Fried’s record as of late.  At least Colonel Reba got better and I am sure the smack talk will continue for some time.

Circled up in the grass behind the Y for old times sake.

Side-straddle-hop x 20 IC

Mary: Malloy’s parking lot

Box Cutters x 30

Devo:

Since Veteran’s Day is approaching, I thought it fitting to do a workout named after a true warrior who lived 2000+ years ago.  Spartacus was an enslaved Greek, best known as a gladiator, who led mostly unskilled slaves in a revolt against the Romans and was victorious.

God gives us the necessary tools to be a successful member of His Army against evil.

Ephesians 6:10-18 New International Version (NIV)

The Armor of God

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

New International Version (NIV)

Burpees and Big Boy Situps running the short length of the courts.  Some mumblechatter until everyone was breathless.

2nd round:

Jump Squats and Merkins running the long length of the courts.  YHC wasted energy racing GA across the court and paid for it later.

PAX made so many trips back and forth, it was like we were trying out to be ball boys since Goldi and YHC didn’t make the cut last week.

DEVO:  GA told a chicken and pig joke about commitment that went something like:  A chicken and a pig were walking down the street and saw a sign at a restaurant that read “Bacon and Egg Breakfast Special.”  The chicken said, “Do they think this is our only contribution in life?”  The pig said, “For you it might be a contribution, but for me it’s a total commitment.”

F3 is a total commitment.  Be committed to us and we will be committed to you.  It’s a whole lot more than just the workout.

YHC decided to take the Q since Goldilocks asked who had it.  As of 1930 the night before, it was still open.  I hadn’t Q’d in a while and asked for HCs.  I only got one from Goldi and plenty of excuses from the rest.

DEVO: I confessed that I really haven’t been in the “Easter Spirit” this year.  It’s been a busy spring and I have been traveling for work and life has been a little crazy around my house.  I missed Palm Sunday because we were out of town for a wedding and haven’t been able to focus on the reason we celebrate Easter.

With that said, my wife shared with me a prayer my daughter prayed on Saturday night before she went to bed before Easter Sunday: “Dear Heavenly Father, God, we know Easter is not about jelly beans, candy, egg hunts, or the Easter Bunny.  Those are fun though.  We know it’s about your son who is in that tomb tonight waiting on tomorrow.  Thank you for your son who died for us.  That’s Easter when he gets to be with you tomorrow”

Wow!  What reassurance from above!  I am thankful that God gives that reassurance that maybe we are doing something right as parents.  What better way to get your mind right for Easter Sunday than having your 5-year-old tell you what it’s all about.

Scripture:

Psalm 8

O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.

Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.

When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.

Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:

All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;

The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.

O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

F3 Hartsville 3 Year Anniversary Shindig

Come one, come all!  Those who attended last year remember (if you didn’t hit the keg too hard) the fun we had shucking oysters and laughing at Tater Salad as he emceed the awards presentation.  Those of you who weren’t a part of this crazy thing we call F3 Hartsville last year, come get some great 2nd F with us this year.

What:

A party for all of F3 Hartsville AND the families of F3 Hartsville

Instead of oysters (since mid-April is a little warm for those), we will have lowcountry boil and BBQ for those who don’t eat seafood.  Libations will be provided by our very own Barfly.  Just bring an appetizer and yourself, your M and you 2.0s.  That’s right!  It’s family friendly.  And a great way to be able to recognize your fellow PAX in public while not wearing sweaty workout clothes.  It’s also a great way to get to know each other for something other than farting during flutter kicks!

Awards.  I did mention awards.  Divac will be sending out ballots shortly for your voting pleasure.  Don’t feel too bad if you don’t win one.  I know it’s hard for some (IYAFYL), but be a man about it.

ImpromptQ

With 4 minutes until go time, YHC messaged that I was the only one so far on the GI chat.  A minute later I saw headlights coming in and realized it was Doc Holiday.  He didn’t let his brother down like the rest of the fartsackers!  Don’t get me wrong – being the day after Christmas, I was not very motivated myself.

Conditions: 30 degrees, cloudy and cold.

All 2 of us circled up, or squared off, or stood there in front of the red fox for warmups.  We didn’t have anything planned, so YHC made it up on the fly, with Doc adding in an exercise here and there.

Devo:

No devo was prepared, so I emphasized that the two of showing was the perfect example of keeping each other accountable.  You post not for yourself, but for your brother.  My plan was to head to War Zone if no one showed and I would have gotten there late and missed at least 1/3 of the workout.  Luckily Doc showed and we got work in and got on with our day.

YHC led us in prayer.

A Kamikaze Mission Gridiron Style

YHC wanted to challenge the PAX today and perhaps do something a little different.  Cardio is a must with the FOX looming less than 2 months away.  I think everyone got their money’s worth! There was a last minute scuttle to get some coupons over to Gridiron, since we haven’t yet established a proper block pile.  T-Claps to Italian Stallion for coming through with cylinders!

Conditions: 41 degrees with a brisk wind.  Quite cold! Great weather!

PAX circled up in front of the red fox for warmups.

The PAX partnered up, grabbed one coupon per team from Stallion’s truck, and took a mosey around to the gate in the baseball field wall granting access to the stadium where cones awaited at the 10, 20, 30, and 40 yard lines.

Before we got to that, I thought we really needed a more formal warmup.  What better way to warm up than to run the visitor’s side of the stadium.  4 sets of stairs hitting every step did the trick.  PAX held the plank at the far end for the 6.

Next up YHC instructed the PAX the teams to wheelbarrow up the steps.  Stallion asked “Are you serious?”  YHC replied, “Did I sound like I was joking?” So we wheelbarrowed up the steps ran back to the bottom and flapjacked.  Everyone finished quickly, so we did it a second time.

Upon completion, Stallion quipped, “That was actually easier than a normal wheelbarrow.”

Now for the cones:

Partner A performed suicides, running to the first cone and back to the goalline, to the second cone and back, and so on, while Partner B performed the exercise listed on the sheet AMRAP style.  Then the partners flapjacked working through the exercises.

Exercises:

  1. Merkins
  2. Goblet Squat
  3. Chest Press
  4. Lunge with block
  5. Big Boy Situps with block
  6. Bear Crawl to 2nd cone and back
  7. Burpees
  8. LBCs with block
  9. Overhead Press
  10. Curls

A couple of teams made it to #10 before time was called.

The PAX were not disappointed or did they feel cheated.  According to Goldie’s watch, we ran approximately 2.5 miles, with about 2 miles of suicides.  Not too shabby. (Goldie also adorned a ruck).

Announcements:

Gridiron will meet at 2:30 pm Sunday at the AO to deliver Christmas presents to their family.

Kirk, Ground Fault, Stallion and others will meet at 3pm to cook turkeys for West Hartsville PTA.

Devo:

James 5:13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.

Once again from my kid’s devotion book I found a fitting devo about prayer, since we are doing the month long prayer challenge.  Pray.  It doesn’t matter how, where you are, or how it sounds.  Stop worrying about whether it using correct grammar, or if you are folding your hands.  Just pray.  An awkward prayer is better than no prayer.  The more you do it, the easier it becomes.

You vs. You

YHC wanted to Q a workout that could meet all fitness levels since we have all levels of fitness at the Gridiron.  AMRAPS and Elevens make you challenge yourself and are not meant to hinge on the fitness of others, even though we are all there to encourage each other and to get better together.

Conditions: A chilly 39 degrees with an even colder wind chill.  PAX were bundled up at the start, but quickly warmed resulting in clothes piled and scattered about.

Devo: Focus on the Prize

Hebrews 12:3 “Think about Jesus. He held on patiently while sinful men were doing evil things against him. Look at Jesus’ example so that you will not get tired and stop trying.”

Jesus knew what was waiting for him in heaven.  He is the only person to live on earth after having lived in heaven.  He came to earth and knew what was waiting for him when he returned which made him able to bear the shame and suffering dealt to him by this world.  In his last moments on the cross, Jesus focused on the joy of heaven, keeping his eye on the prize of returning to God.

We must do the same.  To endure the hardships of life and this world, we too must be able to endure and focus on the life after.  Tap into what keeps you going and motivates you and focus on that to get you through.

If you want to get into better shape physically, keep coming out at 0530 and grinding it out at F3.  If you want to become a better man, a better leader, a better husband and father, keep coming out at 0530 and grinding it out at F3.  If you want a better relationship with God, keep coming out at 0530 and grinding it out at F3.

YHC prayed us out lifting up other F3 brothers.
